Lung Cancer
The American Cancer Society’s estimates 234,580 (116,310 in men and 118,270 in women) new diagnoses of lung cancer in the U.S. and about 125,070 deaths (65,790 in men and 59,280 in women).
60% to 65% of all new lung cancer diagnoses are among people who have never smoked or are former smokers, 10% to 15% of new lung cancer cases are among never-smokers.
Lung cancer mainly occurs in older people. Most people diagnosed with lung cancer are 65 or older; a very small number of people diagnosed are younger than 45. The average age of people when diagnosed is about 70.
